‘The Second One’ was a complete design overhaul and through this issue, Hot Potato now has its own unique voice and the design enhances and reflects the intense amount of work that goes into the content. The magazine covers current affairs, but is photography and design led. The type treatment was originally inspired by a fleeting newspaper entitled ‘Strumpet’ created by artists in North Dublin, Ireland in the early 80’s. This treatment took on a life of its own and bends itself to work within any context or topic. Hot Potato is a nod to traditional newspapers while making its own contemporary contribution.

Naoise O’Keefe is the creator and editor of Hot Potato and over the past nine months she has assisted approximately 60 creatives and writers who have curated the 52 pages of Hot Potato. Following on from ‘The First One’, each team has been given a current news topic to respond to.

The Hot Potato campaign ‘In partnership with your brain’ was managed by; Bridie Gilbert, Elise Madoe & Nadia Doherty. The guest photo editor was Sophie Gladstone.

Hot Potato ‘The Second One’ was translated into french by; Camille Scheiblin, Silvia Pin, Niamh OH, Thalie Barnier, Elise Madoe & Yasmina Lembachar.

As Hot Potato has over 60 contributors and my job as Design Director was to bring all of these elements together in a harmonious, exciting and accessible way. Hot Potato is for everyone.
